South Africa’s packaging industry is entering a new era of sustainability, and all eyes are on Pro-Plas Africa 2025 as it prepares to showcase breakthrough solutions in recyclable and reusable plastic packaging.
Plastic packaging continues to play a vital role in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors due to its durability and affordability. However, growing environmental concerns are reshaping consumer and industry expectations. Pro-Plas Africa 2025, scheduled from March 11–14 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will spotlight innovations that promise to reduce the environmental footprint of plastic without compromising performance.
Game-changing technologies to debut
Adex Plastics & Machinery will unveil the MAMATA Vega 500SM, a revolutionary pouch-making system tailored for 100% recyclable polyethylene materials. With programmable seal time, pressure, and temperature via its Opti Seal System, the Vega 500SM promises fast changeovers and minimal waste, delivering the smallest carbon footprint in its category.
Starlinger, a global leader in sustainable plastics, will showcase its odour reduction recycling technology, enabling high-quality PET regranulate for food-grade reuse. Their systems are approved by international authorities and already deployed worldwide. Additionally, the company will exhibit the SPB filter module for PP tape lines, allowing use of high recycled content while maintaining quality.
Rigid packaging and eco-films for the food industry
Lovell Industries, FSSC 22000 certified and a Sedex platform user, will present its thermoformed containers—trays, punnets, and clamshells—made with at least 30% post-consumer recycled PET. The company recycles all production waste on-site, aligning with global sustainability benchmarks.
IPAK Connect will debut Zeest and Tarmim, part of its Tajdid sustainability initiative. Zeest films are made from PCR/PIR bio-based resin, while Tarmim offers mono-material options that boost recyclability without sacrificing strength or clarity.
Smart packaging that extends shelf life
Zibo Containers will introduce the Econo Meat Tray vacuum skin range, extending fresh meat shelf life by over 20 days. The trays, sealed using modified atmosphere machines, offer excellent clarity and freshness, enhancing retail appeal.
A must-attend event for packaging leaders
Pro-Plas Africa 2025 will run alongside Propak Africa, GAPP Print Expo, FoodPro Expo, and Pro-Label Expo—bringing together over 500 exhibitors and thousands of new products across packaging, plastics, printing, and food processing sectors.
As sustainability becomes a non-negotiable, Pro-Plas Africa 2025 is set to lead the conversation and action in transforming South Africa’s plastic packaging industry for good.
