Workplace safety should go far beyond simply complying with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations—it’s about protecting lives, maintaining productivity, and ensuring business resilience. Ahead of the A-OSH Expo 2025, organisers are calling on employers, particularly in sectors like retail, to adopt a pre-emptive and people-first approach to safety.
Mark Anderson, portfolio director at Specialised Exhibitions, warns (via bizcommunity.com) that poor safety practices come at a high cost: “Inadequate workplace safety can result in injuries, legal penalties, productivity losses, and reputational harm.”
He emphasises that businesses must start with detailed risk assessments and follow through with targeted training, safety equipment, and technology solutions tailored to their unique environments.
A-OSH Expo 2025, taking place from 3 to 5 June at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, is billed as Africa’s largest and most inclusive occupational safety and health (OSH) showcase. Co-located with Securex South Africa, Facilities Management Expo, and Firexpo, the event offers a comprehensive solution for organisations seeking trusted OSH products and advice.
Visitors will gain access to expert exhibitors, industry bodies like Saiosh, the Safety First Association, and SAPEMA, and topical seminar sessions at the free-to-attend Saiosh Seminar Theatre and Working at Height and Safety Seminar Theatre. These include discussions on gas detection technologies, electrical hazards, and root causes of workplace incidents.
Anderson encourages OSH professionals to take full advantage of the learning and networking opportunities available: “Our goal is to empower risk and safety managers with the knowledge and tools they need to build safer work environments.”
